An offspring of yesterday's conceal and reveal, flirtation is about letting in, being cool, balancing signals.
I am a natural flirt, albeit not an expert flirt. I tend to "telegraph my punches", let you know where I'm going before I get there. Not a good poker face. But I enjoy it. It is a game I like to play. Reveal, conceal.

I've been thinking about this for a while, ever since I sat in on a rehearsal of Almost Asleep, a play that was performed recently in Boston. Novel Eye was in it. It's a play about a woman exploring her reactions and feelings about being assaulted.
I've also been aware of what to share and what to keep to myself in the process of switching employers. What's in my best interest? Are these things of interest to anyone but me?
One thing I have determined is the timing is mine. I can choose what and where and to whom I confide, or confess, or inform.
This is just the beginning of this topic. I promise to revisit it.

Watching branches in the wind and rain.
Knowing trees are rooted and flexible
Most of the time.

The sun is shining,
tomorrow will be storming,
I've got to get out
and get things done.

Remember a while back when I was unsettled by a change in Veterinarians?
Well, now I'm dealing with a change of Employers. So far, so good, but it requires learning new people's new styles, flexibility, and initial deference, plus self confidence.
It requires much Looking Glass logic. Stay tuned.

Think of no one as "them"
Don't confuse your comfort with safety
Talk to strangers!
Imagine other cultures
through their poetry and novels
Listen to music you don't understand
Dance to it.
Act locally
Notice the workings of power
and privilege in your culture
Question consumption
know how your lettuce and coffee are
grown;wake up and smell the exploitation
Look for fair trade labels
Acquire fewer needs
Learn a second (or third) language
Visit people, places and cultures
not tourist attractions
Learn peoples history
Re-define progress
Know physical and political geography
Play games from other cultures
Know your heritage
Look at the moon and imagine
someone else
somewhere else, looking up at it too
Understand the global community
in terms of people, land and water
Never believe you have the right
To anyone else's resources
Question corporate and military connections
Don't confuse money with wealth,
or time with money
Have a pen/email pal
Honor indigenous cultures
Be skeptical about what you read
Eat adventurously
Choose curiosity over certainty
Know where your water comes from
and where your wastes go
Pledge allegiance to the earth:
question nationalism
Think South, Central and North
there are many Americans!
Assume that many others share your dreams
Know that no one is silent
though many are not heard
work to change this.

The Art for the Day is: Acquiring fewer needs

One of the things I've noticed is I either dream more, or remember my dreams more, when I am not sleeping in a familiar place. I've been having some strange dreams lately. Not at all unpleasant, but very strange. It began by revisiting/recalling dreams I've already had: The nonexistant 4th floor of the house I grew up in, The street where I've never been but know the way, Conversations with people I know and people I don't know about stuff I don't remember having conversations about. Processing feelings. Revisting thoughts I've had that day. All interesting stuff coming together.

Exploring, navigating, feeling lost and then turning a corner or passing a road sign, and voila, you know where you are again.
Today has been both a physical and mental travelling day.
Just another set of observations from the Urban Camper.

Eastern and western medicine.
Do they work in conjunction? Do they interact?
Do you want to be the person they test it on?
Aside: In the deli the other day there was a man who had a Mozart bell tone on his cell phone, the trills from the Queen of the Night aria from the Magic Flute. Who knew that was a turn on?

No, don't get excited. I'm not planning any weddings. I'm just sitting next to two women who are planning their weddings, and from time to time throwing in comments on how we planned our wedding. Sweet memories. And what comes up is how accomodating we were, and how some kind of logic or compromise came up with each decision. And how nice the weather was. Strange what you remember.

My Aunt Harriet's ipod
My cousin convinced my aunt to get an ipod, and he filled it with all the music she likes:
Italian tenors
Gilbert and Sullivan
Show Tunes
Crooners
Nothing later than Andrew Lloyd Webber.
And she loves it! It is magical to her that this little white box can hold all that sound!
This is a woman who is intimidated by computers, even when I try to convince her that it's really as simple as counting ones and zeros really, really fast.
She and her granddaughter each plug their pods into a speaker platform and proceed to blast each other over different floors of the house. 'Tis true, 'tis pity, 'tis pity, 'tis true.
She will take it down to Miami with her this winter and be bopping on the plane, and jazzing on the beach. Rock on, lady!

Someone just threw me a curve ball.
I'll know more after talking to the powers that be tomorrow.
The New Yorker in me is surprised to find the vestiges of a Mets fan, as the Pennant games get rained out and rained out. Who'da thunk it.
But the art of covering bases is where I find myself today. I just need to be where I need to be, when I need to be there. Some would just call that scheduling, but there is the element of being there and being ready for what might get thrown your way that brings up the baseball metaphors.
I wonder if the Red Queen plays baseball. It does take all the running you can do to keep in the same place.

I'm pretty pleased with myself. I walked into a store to try to promote an upcoming event, and basically get them to donate stuff to the event, but before I asked them I bought something, "Oh, by the way, would it be possible..."
It was a Southern Girl moment, and I might have used my best Virginia accent, but this took place in a very Yankee establishment.

AKA: Making an exit.
Well, I seem to have come to the end of this series. I'm sure there are one or two left, but I'll write them up some other day.
Generally life is busy. I have lists of things I want to do, and lists of things I ought to do, and lists of things I have to do. (No one can say I am listless).

I'm up to something. Can you figure out what it is?
