As in baptising the new laptop in coffee. As in spilling coffee all over the table, and all the papers on the table, towards the center, not the edge. Oh my God! (hence the baptism).

The Art of the Day is: List making
I've been thinking about the fact that come February 1st, five days from now, I will have been posting this blog for a year, and that's a good point to take some measure/metrics of where I've been, and set some goals for where to go next. I was looking over the list of Arts of the Day, and it's interesting to see what comes up and how often. So, just for fun, I'll publish the first installment of Art's of the Day, in alphabetical order (cause that's how I've saved them) and we'll see what happens:

The Art of the Day is: Directing
or maybe, redirecting
as in:
I've got a habit, trait, quality I'd like to change, put a different spin on, modify.
But will I take direction from myself?
(if I want the play to have a happy ending, I will)
The Art of the Day is: Baroque
Why didn't I think of this earlier?
Baroque Art is late renaissance art, with a highly developed
sense of spacial depth and detail.
It is highly theatrical, and that's why it's a personal favorite. It also often tells a story.
The term baroque refers to a large natural
asymmetrical pearl. We are all baroque in our own way.
The Art of the Day is: Cooperating
Playing well together.
working to everyone's mutual advantage.
team playing
sharing
why not?
The Art of the Day is: the art of entertaining
I was at a birthday party for my brother's neighbor's brother. Just a very nice social event with some nice folks and some very good food and drink. The neighbor had made blackberry cordial out of blackberries from my brother's yard (not so much a garden as a berry patch). I named it "Berry Herring", after the cherry
schnapps my uncle's would drink at a kiddish. Two women from Bosnia and Herzegovina made a kind of savory strudel, one with cheese and one with potato. It was similar to something I saw a
Sephardi friend make with pumpkin filling, but I don't know the name of any of them.
The Art of the Day is: Compromise
"You can't always get what you want, but if you try
sometimes
you get what you need."
The Art of the Day is: Making Contacts
Eye contact.
Business contacts.
Social contacts.
electrical contacts.
emotional contacts.
logistical contacts.
formal contact.
physical contact.
metaphysical contact.
The Art of the Day is: Contrition
I'm sorry it's been so many days, and days in between days since I've posted anything.
It really is hard to call it an "art of the day" if you don't post it daily. In defense I've been away.
In reality, that's no excuse.
I try very hard not to make new year's resolutions, and if I do only resolve to get something done by year's end (so I end up feeling guiltiest in December), but if I did I would resolve to write more, and more
consistently.
Sincerely,
The Other Joan, AKA The Red Queen.
The Art of the Day is: Automotive Engineering
Now, I'm sure there are those of you out there who don't think of engineering of any sort as an art, but I was driving with my uncle in his new car, and there was an LED display of the direction we were headed IN THE
REAR VIEW MIRROR! This was way cool, and whoever came up with it needs to be lauded as a brilliant designer.
The Art of the Day is: Business
It's been very interesting to be at a business seminar, to think like a capitalist.
The Art of the Day is: Flux
2 points, maybe 3:
Flux as in going in and out, being in between, not settled yet.
Flux as in stuff you use in soldering. I want to learn how to solder stuff.
Flux, a funny word.
The Art for the Day is: Overcoming Inertia
Procrastinate? Moi?
Yes, sad to say. I tend to take free time, unscheduled time and fritter it away until I have mere days, and not the whole week I started with for a project. A little time pressure to get me going? A deadline to push against.
I was going to tell the people I work for that I keep a blog. Maybe today isn't the best time to tell them.
The Art of the Day is: Keeping in touch
I
received a year end letter today from a friend who is fighting breast cancer.
I
received news that a cousin is pregnant.
It's good to stay in touch.
The Art of the Day is: Polling the public
Because if you ask a room full of people "what should be the Art of the Day" you get answers like,"Uhh, I don't know", "Grafitti", and "Revolution", which are all possible, but not exceptional.
At this point, I am looking for other's input. What would you choose as "Art of the Day"?
